Oh, friends—Thanksgiving is around the corner (for Americans, that is), and if you’re anything like me you’re in menu planning mode. This year I’m wondering if it’s okay to ditch our annual stuffing (which I love, dearly) in favor of this Dorie Greenspan recipe for stuffed pumpkin. Will there be a revolt if I do?
Because you may be in menu planning mode too, I thought I’d round up all my favorite Thanksgiving recipes from years past. Here are my family’s tried and true. Perhaps you might want to give them a little spot on your table this year.
My absolute favorite stuffing of all time: chockfull of pecans, sauteed mushrooms, onions, celery, moist with cornbread and sourdough, this is a stuffing to come home to.

The untraditional cranberry sauce that changed my mind: I was never much for cranberry sauce until I found this cranberry conserve studded with golden raisins, tangerine, and ginger. It’s so good I eat it out of the bowl with a spoon.

My mother makes my favorite roasted root vegetables each year, cubed and tossed with olive oil and salt and chopped rosemary, that look like jewels on a plate. I love this dish.

May all who celebrate have a wonderful holiday, filled with those you love and good food. We all have so much to be thankful for.
What are your Thanksgiving favorites?

I love all of this!! TDay is my favorite day!!
I made Dorie's stuffed pumpkin as the main entree for a dinner party last weekend and it was a hit! Definitely a good option if you want to sub it in in place of stuffing for Thanksgiving.
have a great Thanksgiving!
I say, keep the stuffing but add the stuffed pumpkin – what the heck, it's Thanksgiving!
Mmm… these all look great. I'm going to have to try the roasted root vegetables, they look – and I'm sure, taste – gorgeous.
Spinach balls with a homemade spicy mustard sauce. These are an absolute Thanksgiving must served besides sweet potato souffle cornbread stuffing and jellied cranberry sauce.
Well, I had a favorite cranberry sauce (cranberries, pears and ginger) but now I might just have to try yours. And I have a loved stuffing recipe, though I'm itching to try some new ones, including yours. This year when I proposed trying some new dishes my husband commented, "your not much for tradition are you?", silly him – my lack of tradition is what prompted us to try the current favorite stuffing recipe. I think of dinner as needing the following, "stuffing category", orange vegetable category, green vegetable category, potato category and see no reason why the actual dish can't vary year to year.
We had a hole in our counter where our stove used to be this morning, so until 4 p.m. I was thinking Chinese take-out. However, now that we have a proper (functioning!) stove in place, again, we'll simmer brussels in cream and bacon, mash potatoes, make biscuits, make gravy thick with mushrooms, rich as sin, and in all liklihood riff off of your stuffing. I've been ad hoc'ing stuffing for years, from a long lost recipe very similar to this. It couldn't have come at a better time! Thanks, Tara. And a wonderful, joy-filled Thanksgiving to you.
Beautiful and they sound delicious.
Thank you.
Love!!!!!!!! look too yummy

Love it all! What's not to love? Even though it's just me, I'll make myself a nice dinner.
I made the stuffed pumpkin and it is fantastic! My vote is YES! I have all the ingredients again so I can make it before Christmas!
Dorie Greenspan is amazing so I'd think you could substitute stuffing for any one of her recipes and it would be a hit.
Although, this recipe you posted also sounds incredible. Since Thanksgiving is long over in Canada, I may try it out this Christmas!
Pumpkin pie, oh my yes. My grandma's cornbread dressing. Homemade cranberry sauce (this year I put in kumquat marmalade). Oh, joy!
i love all of it but i like stuffing / dressing best. because of this, like zoomie, i say: keep the stuffing and add the stuffed pumpkin!
OMG! I am a meateater but your recipes for stuffed pumpkin, roasted root veggies and cranberry conserve sound amazing! I'm running to the store to make sure these are on my Thanksgiving table….can't wait to try them! thank you!!!!!
